Williams Family
My grandparents, James and Elizabeth Williams are buried under the large old beech tree to the left when entering the Church Gates right near the wall. The mufflers in the belfry were given to the Church by his family in his memory.
I had read the article on the Millennium Tapestry in the magazine the Four Shires and did contact them regarding the article on twins. My twin brother and sister Jim and Eva Williams were born in Culworth in 1929, (think I have the right year) to my parents George Leslie and Margaret Williams, who some years later moved to Eydon.
I myself have rung the bells at Culworth Church many times, I used to come bell ringing with Eric Walker from Eydon, one time organist for many many years.

Brown Family
During WWII Many families was evacuated from London to many parts of the country i.e.; Culworth, yes they would have made the journey from London to Banbury -- Culworth junction, nobody would have known where they was going, until they was told to get off, what I understand the families walked up the hill in Culworth into the stables, now I believe turned into flats, they stayed there until accommodation was available, I believe that Monty Fury designated places for families to move into, as I mentioned, what was then Rose cottage now known as Falklands, My two eldest sisters Hilda & Barbara Went to Culworth school, what they remembered was the dancing round the may pole plus a few other things, of course I was born in Culworth 03/04/41. My family stayed in the Village until 1946/7 when they decided to move back London.
All my family have been back several times to the village, alas my Mother died 25 yrs ago but my father he is still going strong aged 91, he has many memories of the village, he was in the home guard in the village of Culworth when he wasn’t working in Banbury in the Ammunition Factory, He believed there wouldn’t be anybody of the village who would know him as they would either be to old or past away!!! My fathers name is Mr Joseph Herbert Brown!!!
I tell you a funny story But true, several years ago in Perth after visiting Culworth I had some Photo’s that I wish to enlarge, at a shop in Kinnoull St Perth, after three days I went to the shop to collect, the staff of the shop open the package asked did I approve of course I did, but well behold somebody from behind me said excuse me, where did you get those photo’s, I said took them myself, the chap said that’s remarkable, the shop you have in your picture is of my Grandfather shop called Mumford the butcher shop, anyway to cut along story short, the relations of the Mumford’s now stay in Aberfeldy, that was one in a million.
